Need help toilet training your child with autism? While statistics show that most children in the U.S. are toilet trained by the time they are 3 years old, this major developmental milestone usually occurs much later for a child with autism. While you may be doing all the “right” things, your child with autism may not respond in the way you expect. However, with a few minor tweaks and consistency, your child could be on the road to successful toilet training.
Chelsea de Silva of Stepping Stones Behavior Guidance presents a free workshop class designed to help parents, teachers, sitters and those involved with individuals on the spectrum to get this goal accomplished. Chelsea is a BCBA, and has almost 20 years experience working with individuals and their families with autism. You will learn: different methods; how age may factor into learning; behavioral set-backs; regression; easy fix sabotages of training; readiness signs that are suited to the special challenges of the individual with autism and alternatives to the traditional training strategies. You will also learn how to customize a plan to your child and leave with visuals, data sheets and a potty training success packet, including data sheets, token board, reminders, reinforcers and communication photos.
Chelsea de Silva is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst who is the Clinical director of an ABA company. She has been working in the field of special needs since 1999. She fell in love with Applied Behavior Analysis during her first years in college while searching for answers and solutions to help her own special needs sister. She acquired her Bachelors Degree from CSUN, went on to earn her MA and has been a BCBA for 7 years now. On her journey, Chelsea has learned that every individual with autism is different, with his or her own special challenges to overcome. She has also learned that each individual has something special and unique to offer their family and community and takes it as a personal mandate to help every child and family that she comes in contact with learn how they learn and access their environment in a functional manner.
